Premiere of Pittsburgh: The Movie

Premiered the movie of our Pittsburgh trip last month to rave reviews last night. The surprise Top Gun ending was my favorite part. I did that at 3am after the Mai Tai Lounge. When you've already done 6 versions -- none of which quite met my standards -- what's a 7th, after a few beers, shots and mixed drinks, when The Colorado is somewhere other than in your garage, like, say, the bar parking lot? Exactly.

And for the record, the 7th version is OK. Everyone else loved it. But I'm such a critic of my own work. I mean, if you believed my opinion, you'd think this very site was crap. I think it is, most of the time. But other people seem to enjoy it.

Not as much as seeing Loverboy TWICE, but it is occasionally entertaining...

Admittedly, the video is pretty bad-ass. Any video with a soundtrack of Franz Ferdinand, Wesley Willis, Duran Duran, Notorious BIG, Deee-Lite, Frank Stallone and Pearl Jam, among others, is by definition OK. Add hilarious sequences and some nice editing, and SEVEN VERSIONS OF REVISIONS, and its classic.

Why 7 revisions? Because every time I'd watch a DVD draft, I'd inevitably think of a better song to use in a certain place, or a better way to edit something, etcetea etcetera. The Top Gun thing was last minute.

For the premiere, Continental, Dick and myself all sat at the bar laughing and having a great time. On a Sunday night. Two pitchers and dinner later, we retired back to my place to watch Entourage on HBO, and then the movie.

During the movie, we really should have been recording the audio for a commentary track. Good stories, and hilarious laughter at some of the things I did on the movie. Good stuff.

Afterward, we watched some Adult Swim, where we discovered Continental really doesn't think much of the cartoons shown on it. I think it pretty damn hilarious myself. Robot Chicken being best, Aqua Teen Hunger Force being close second, followed by Sealab 2021, and the Family Guy. Hate Tom goes to the mayor. Despise Harvey Birdman. Drew hates 'em all. Too bad, cos there's some funny stuff on there.
