I love this time of year. The baseball playoffs are in full swing, my fantasy football team is decimating the competition, and the 'Skers fans are pouting about their latest gridiron loss. And just when it seems things can't get any better, they do: I open my mailbox and find that familiar gold envelope with the words "IMPORTANT MATERIALS: OPEN IMMEDIATELY" stamped on it.
Makes me feel like a secret agent, receiving work orders for 18 winter days and nights. Inside this envelope, of course: my season tickets.
It doesn't seem like it should be college basketball season yet, does it? I mean, it was 70 degrees and sunny today. But my tickets are sitting on my counter, so I know it must be close.
Eight days until the exhibition tip. Sixteen days until the season tips off against DePaul. 67 days until the Valley slate tips against Illinois State. 95 days until the first beat-down is administered against the Salukis. 110 days until the second beat-down. 144 days until the Jays are crowned champs of Arch Madness. But that's getting ahead of myself.

You've probably noticed this site has undergone a major face-lift in the last week. I put the site on hiatus over the summer while I tussled with my editor over revisions for my new book; now that I've signed off on the final draft, I will be posting something new here at least four days a week, and hopefully more often than that. First up: team previews for each team in the Valley. I'll start things off tomorrow with Illinois State, followed by Indiana State on Thursday and Drake on Friday. (These will be presented in no particular order, incidentally).
